Benefits of Orthognathic Surgery
Correction of Functional Issues
If you’re having trouble speaking, chewing, or with other oral functions due to jaw misalignments, orthognathic surgery can provide relief and optimize oral function and health.
Enhanced Facial Aesthetics
By correcting facial asymmetry and imbalance, facial harmony can be restored, leading to higher levels of self-confidence.
Improved Bite and Occlusion
Orthognathic surgery strives to correct misalignment in the jaws to improve bite and occlusions, enhancing chewing and biting efficiency while reducing strain on the jaw.
Long-Term Stability
When combined with appropriate orthodontic treatment, orthognathic surgery can produce lasting corrections to jaw abnormalities.
Orthognathic Surgery Procedure
Like any procedure we offer, the first step in the orthognathic surgery process is a consultation with Dr. Weber, our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. In this consultation, he’ll perform an oral exam to create a treatment plan that addresses your concerns and that can achieve improved oral function. During this appointment, he may take 3D scans to further assess your condition.
On that day of surgery, you’ll receive anesthesia to induce sleep to ensure your procedure is pain-free. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will make incisions inside of the mouth to access the jawbones and avoid any external scarring. Depending on your condition, small plates, screws, or another fixation device will be placed to secure the repositioned jawbones.
After the adjustments are made, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Following the procedure, you may need to stay overnight in the hospital to recover. In the weeks following your surgery, you may experience some discomfort and swelling. You may also be asked to adhere to dietary restrictions while closely following the post-operative instructions received.
Types of Anesthesia
We offer several forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
